Hey everybody,
Just thought I would give a quick update on my condo. Today, I found out that the bank will close my loan immediately, without having to wait for FHA approval! This is very good news, because it appears that the units are still not moving quickly, and getting 7 units under contract might not have been as immediate of a thing as I was initially led to believe.
I will have to finance at the current rates, which is unfortunate because I think the rates have gone up almost a full point since I got my first good faith estimate. However, I think it will be worth grabbing the loan in order to eliminate the uncertainty that was hanging over me before.
In other news, the Mariners finally won in the fourth game I had been to this season, yesterday at Safeco. Weekend after next I'll be checking out all three games of the weekend series against the Diamondbacks, and staying Friday and Saturday night at the Silver Cloud Hotel across the street from the stadium! Then, since I finally have some accrued vacation time at my new job, I'll get the following week off - the first I've had since Christmas! I'll be spending the week in eastern Washington with friends and family.

2009-04-24 22:32:38 with 5 CommentsHere are some pictures of the condo which I have just bought. The complex is brand new and was completed at the end of 2008. It has two bedrooms, 1.75 bath, and approximately 1050 square feet with a HUGE deck. The deck overlooks a small greenbelt wooded area with a stream running by. You can hear the stream trickling along when you sit out on the deck.
The kitchen is absolutely gorgeous. Granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. The cupboards are really nice, spacious, and numerous. The island is very cool. The living room is SUPERsized, with a gas fireplace in the corner. The bedrooms are not huge but decent sized, and the ceiling fans in each room have remote controls to turn them on and off!!
I am super excited. There is nobody living in this complex yet, so assuming everything works out, I will be the first one to move in. I will apply for my mortgage loan on Monday. I have already been preapproved with a couple banks, so I'm not too worried about obtaining financing, but I have to go through a specific bank to obtain the special deals that I am getting from the seller.
I made what I thought was a low offer to get negotiations started, but the offer was accepted with no attempt to get me to go higher! I think I'm getting a pretty sweet deal. More info to come! I hope to close in mid-May.

Last week it became apparent to me that a change in my work situation was needed. It is our busy season, and I wasn't busy. Problem. I'm not too sure exactly why the problem existed, but for whatever reason it did. Luckily, there is another smaller accounting firm in Bellingham that was in an opposite position, and needed people at my position badly.
With the blessing of the partners at my current firm (names omitted so they won't come up in Google searches), I interviewed with the new firm yesterday. They were all very kind and excited about the possibility of me working there. (I had interviewed with them in 2005 coming out of college and several people there remembered me from back then!) They made me a generous offer and I accepted.
Today was my last day at my old job, and frankly it was much harder than I was anticipating. As I mentioned, I have been frustrated with the lack of work for some time, but I really really loved the people I was working with and had built some close friendships. Being that as most of my college friends moved out of town, and my older friends are scattered throughout the country, it is hitting me hard that I will no longer see the people I grew so close to on a day to day basis. When I told them it was my last day, I received an outpouring of well wishes and realized that the relationships I had with others were ones they would miss as well. One close friend even told me she considered me like a son to her, since her sons have moved away for college and careers. This really floored me. I had no idea.
I start at the new firm tomorrow and am looking forward to becoming part of a smaller team who I should fit in really well with. But at the same time it's hard not to be miserable tonight as I think about what I'm leaving behind.

I came home from being at my parent's place for the weekend, and had the most adorable message on my home phone answering machine. It went a little something like this:
Little Girl: HI AUNT MICHELLE! This is your phone number, of course! My mom says it's the wrong number, but she's nuts...
Mom (in the background): Was it a woman's voice?
Girl: No, it was a man's.
Mom: Then it's the wrong number. Hang up.
Girl: OK.....
Mom: Say 'thank you, sorry."
Girl: Thank you, sorrrrry!

That really made me chuckle.

2008-05-26 22:35:45 with No CommentsHere's my take on the sailing that was done on Sunday. It was a great time! I was going to post some of my sister's wedding and reception photos as well, but I have been having troubles with the BIRP lately. Well... the lighting in the church and at the Fort Warden Commons isn't great either, so they didn't turn out as well as these.
